Title Content Brief:

Higher education in the United States is perpetually in crisis, buffeted by increasing costs and a perceived lack of return on investment, campus culture that is criticized for stifling debate on controversial topics, and a growing sense that the liberal arts are outmoded and irrelevant. In China, too, there are calls for universities to produce more creative and nimble students who are able to work across different areas of knowledge to solve pressing problems. In this era of uncertain transformation, how can higher education reinvent itself? In “The New Global Universities: Reinventing Education in the 21st Century,” Noah Pickus describes the courage, entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership required to reshape higher education in today’s society, based on the development and launch processes of eight innovative colleges and universities in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and North America. The book offers valuable insights and practical experiences for education innovators worldwide, demonstrating how higher education institutions can transform to fulfill their visions and missions in education.

Dozens of Press authors have been awarded the most prestigious academic prizes in the world, including the Nobel Prize in economics and the Fields Medal in mathematics.

Following the successful establishment of its first international office in Europe in 1999, Princeton University Press officially opened its China office in 2017, because of China’s growing investment in higher education and scholarly research and its increasing centrality in the world of ideas and the world itself.

Academic Presence in China

To enhance academic communication between Chinese scholars and those in the West, PUP China office has been collaborating frequently with outstanding scholars and academic institutions in China, designing initiatives to pair up PUP authors and local Chinese scholars for dialogues in their fields.

We hope the ideas embedded in the academic publications can go beyond book launch and selling, but to provoke people’s thoughts and stimulate the conversations among students and scholars, across disciplines and among different cultures.
