Role and Purpose of the Library Council (LC)

The Library Council (LC) is a Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA) appointed committee that advises the University Librarian and VCAA on matters relating to general policies, major changes in resources and services, and library-wide initiatives. In addition, it acts as a communication link between the library and the faculty.

Membership:

  1. Nominated by program chair and appointed by VCAA.
  2. Be composed of a minimum 7 faculty, students, and staff at any given time:
    • UG program: 3 faculty members (1 from each of the divisions)
    • Graduate programs: 1 faculty member
    • Language and Culture Center: 1
    • Students: 1 (UG students preferred)
    • Staff: 1
  3. Ex Officio: The University Librarian (UL) and 1-2 senior library staff designated by the UL.
  4. UL chairs LC.
  5. Term: two years for faculty and student members, and one year for the member from Academic Affairs or other offices, with the option to continue each year. This ensures continuity on the board. New members will be invited at the beginning of each Spring semester. This ensures fresh perspectives each year and gives opportunities for DKU community users to join.
