Established in 2024, the Duke Kunshan University Library Special Collections contains books, manuscripts, maps and atlases, brochures, photographs, and various ephemera. Current collection areas include Kunshan history, economy, culture (such as Kunqu) and tourism as well as tourism in Suzhou, literature in Jiangsu and Shanghai, among other topics. Special Collections aims to provide useful primary source materials for the DKU community and are always open to suggestions on potential collecting areas and collections, regardless of format.
DKU Special Collections acquires unique or rare materials that document collecting areas including, but not limited to: Kunqu Opera, Kunshan and the surrounding area, local maps and atlases, photographs and audio-visual materials, local transportation, and tourism. As we are growing, we welcome the opportunity to build useful collections in new research areas.
We collect materials in a wide range of formats, including books, manuscripts, publications, posters, maps, photographs and audio-visual materials, ephemera, and artifacts. Digital materials are also part of Special Collections, and we welcome suggestions for websites to be archived related to collection areas. Please contact us if you have material which may be of value for DKU Special Collections.
