Library Spaces

Please follow the general guidelines below to use the Library spaces/rooms:

  1. Open seats (except seats with public stations) are on a first-come, first-served basis. 
  2. Study rooms and team rooms are available to use only after reservation. Check the tabs “Seat Reservation” and “Study Rooms & Team Rooms” above for details.
  3. Public devices such as desktops and monitors on the 4th floor are available to use only after reservation. Check the tabs “Seat Reservation” above for details.
  4. Multi-Media booths on the 4th floor are available to use only after reservation. Check the tabs “Seat Reservation” and “Multi-Media Booths” above for details.
  5. Functional rooms (check the tab “Functional Rooms” above for details) or places with equipment are available to use only after reservation. Send an email with your date, attendance, purposes and room number to dkulibrary@dukekunshan.edu.cn to make a reservation. Each reservation is limited to 3 hours.
  6. Email space-reservation@dukekunshan.edu.cn to reserve classrooms.
  7. Course reservations will be given priority.
  8. Do not use personal belongings to occupy seats. Please take your personal belongings with you when you need to leave for more than 30 minutes. The left items will be cleaned up by Library staff and we will not be responsible for any loss.
  9. Please keep quiet in open space:
    • Use study/team rooms for group discussions.
    • Telephone booths on the 3rd and 4th floors are available for phone calls.
  10. If you need to move around furniture in a particular space, please return it to its original position when you leave.
  11. Please keep the environment clean and don’t litter.
  12. Food Policy:
    • Do not bring any strongly scented foods or takeout into the Library.
    • Do not bring uncovered drinks.
    • No eating in the labs such as Wind Lab and Film/Music Appreciation Room, and the entire 3rd and 4th floors.
  13. You can check for space availability here, but you cannot reserve rooms on this site.
  14. Follow any additional guidelines for other special spaces listed on this page.
 
 
 
 

Please review the instructions below to learn how to make a reservation and check availability before using the Library’s study rooms, team rooms, public monitors, public desktops and multi-media booths.

  • You can sign up for up to 3 hours each time.
  • Please select an appropriate room based on the number of attendees.
  • You may reserve seats or rooms that will be used within the next 7 days, but the total number of reservations must not exceed 5.
  • The same seat or room cannot be reserved consecutively. There will be an interval of at least 1 hour between two reservations.
  • Please cancel your reservation in time if you are unable to come.
  • Do not leave your personal belongings to occupy seats or rooms. Any unattended items left on seats or rooms that have not been reserved will be removed by the Library staff.

There are 5 ways to enter the reservation page:

  1. Save the link directly for future use when making reservations: DKU Library Space Reservation.
  2. Select “Books and Media” from the search box, enter the keyword “DKU Library Space Reservations” on the Library homepage: https://library.dukekunshan.edu.cn/.
  3. Use the quick link “Library Spaces” under the search box on the Library homepage, then click “Seat Reservation”.
  4. Click “More” – “Seat Reservation” on the Library official WeChat account.
  5. Scan the QR code on the table.

Once you are on the reservation page:

  1. Scroll down to the bottom, select and click the type of space you will be using.
  2. Click the Request button.
  3. Check the availability calendar, fill out the time slots and click “Send Request” to complete your reservation.

There are 2 ways to check if the space is occupied or not:

  1. Click “Check availability calendar” on the reservation page.
  2. Or scan the QR code on the table.

Library Lobby

Liu Shuang Film/Music Appreciation Room (2101B)

  1. Reservation is required.
  2. How to get into the room:
    • Before 5:30pm on weekdays: Patrons need to exchange their campus card for a temporary key card at the 1st floor information desk to open the door after reservation is approved.
    • After 5:30pm on weekdays or weekends: call 36657110 for door access after reservation is approved.
  3. The Library is not responsible for providing any IT supports. Please send a ticket to DKU IT Service Desk at service-desk@dukekunshan.edu.cn in advance.
  4. Eating in the room is not allowed. Drinks must be in containers with lids to avoid spills.
  5. Avoid moving in extra furniture.
  6. 22 seats available. The number of participants should be limited to 22.

Lecture Hall (2001)

  1. Tea break should be put inside the room.
  2. The Library is not responsible for providing any IT supports. Please send a ticket to DKU IT Service Desk at service-desk@dukekunshan.edu.cn in advance.
  3. For furniture moving, please contact Campus Services at campus-services@dukekunshan.edu.cn.

Tea House (3015) ​

  1. 36 seats available. The number of participants should be limited to 36.
  2. Avoid hosting noisy events. Microphone equipment is prohibited.
  3. No eating on the 3rd floor unless permissions are granted for catered services or special events in particular spaces/rooms by the Library.
  4. Avoid moving in extra furniture.
  5. The Library is not responsible for providing any IT supports. Please send a ticket to DKU IT Service Desk at service-desk@dukekunshan.edu.cn in advance.

Meditation Room (4116)

Welcome to the Meditation Room at DKU Library, a tranquil space dedicated to relaxation and inner peace. To ensure a positive and harmonious experience for all patrons, we kindly request your cooperation in adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Respect others’ tranquility.
  • Limit usage to 45 minutes per person.
  • Keep the room clean and tidy.
  • Food is not allowed. Drinks must be in containers with lids.
  • Use provided equipment with care.
  • Mindful activities only.
  • Avoid overcrowding.
  • Clean equipment and put them back to the original place after use.
  • Report issues to library staff promptly.

DKU Library Multi-Media Booth Usage Policy

  • Purpose: The aim of this policy is to guarantee equitable and appropriate access to the Library’s media booths, ensuring the equipment’s proper utilization and maintenance.

Multi-Media Booth Equipment

Room Size:
  • Medium size: No.1 – No.4: 1-3 people
  • Large size: No. 5 – No. 6: 4-6 people
 

Each booth is equipped with:

  • A 55-inch screen
  • A DVD player
  • A Dell laptop

Usage Guidelines

  1. Booking and Availability:
    a. Booths can be reserved through the tab “Seat Reservation” above.
    b. Each patron can book up to a maximum of 3 hours at a time.
    c. If the media booth is unoccupied 15 minutes after the scheduled start time, the reservation may be forfeited.
  2. Equipment and DVD Access:
    a. To use the DVD player and screen, patrons can obtain the necessary controllers from the 1st floor information desk.
    b. If patrons wish to play DVDs, they can borrow the disks from the 1st floor information desk as well.
  3. Priority:
    Group usage might be prioritized over individual patrons, especially during high-demand periods.
  4. Usage Purpose:
    a. The media booth is intended primarily for academic, research, or educational activities.
    b. Loud sounds or disturbances are not permitted. Using headphones is recommended when necessary.
    c. Unauthorized software installation on the laptops is strictly prohibited.
  5. Food and Drink:
    Consuming food or drinks inside the media booths is not allowed.
  6. Maintenance and Care:
    a. Patrons should ensure the media booth is clean and tidy after use.
    b. Any equipment damage or malfunction should be reported to the library staff immediately. Users may be held accountable for any damages during their booking period.
  7. Security:
    Patrons are advised not to leave personal items unattended. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings.
  8. Misuse Consequences:
    Non-compliance with these guidelines may result in temporary or permanent restrictions from accessing the media booths.
