Blind Date with a Book

To welcome everyone back to campus, encourage reading and celebrate the Spring Festival, DKU Library hosted the Blind Date with a Book event in AB Lobby on Thursday, January 13.

During the event, we invited members of the DKU community to share a book or film they enjoyed reading or watching in 2021. Some of the popular titles include Dune, 《长津湖》, and L’Étranger. Other titles, such as《冬与狮》,《看见》and Lolita, are available at the Library.
One student put down “OK” on the board. Whoever wrote this – can you confirm with us if this is a real book/film? Another student really enjoyed reading their textbooks and wrote down “Linear Algebra Done Right” 🙂

We also invited participants to select a lucky bag. Each bag contains a Library book, picked by Library staff from the AB and TA libraries, and a random Chinese New Year-themed souvenir. The books are in both English and Chinese and cover a wide range of topics, from popular fiction to classics.

Because the bags were sealed, nobody – us included – knew the titles inside. Once Library staff helped with registering, many opened their bag right away. Some were pleasantly surprised by the books, while others were more excited about the souvenirs.

Although the event was scheduled to begin at 12 pm, we started early due to many students’ requests, and all 110 bags were gone within half an hour. Our apologies if you were unable to receive a bag – we will adapt our procedures to ensure future Library events run more smoothly.

For those who did receive a bag: you can keep the souvenir but need to return the book to AB or TA by June 30, 2022, otherwise you will be charged for replacement and handling (RMB 225 for Chinese books, and RMB 525 for English books)
We are hosting many other events and workshops throughout the spring semesters, so stay tuned!

If you have any questions, please contact the Library at dkulibrary@dukekunshan.edu.cn

A special thank you to Siyi Dai for taking photos during the event. We would also like to thank staff and students for giving us permission to use their photos.
