A Cultural Journey to Armenia with Narek Zalibekyan, UG’29

November 20, 2025

On the afternoon of November 7, 2025, Duke Kunshan University (DKU) Library’s “Reading the World” series returned with an immersive Armenian cultural presentation beside the Magazine & New Book Reading Area. The event featured Narek Zalibekyan, Class of 2029, from Armenia, who guided more than twenty attendees through an immersive introduction to his home country.

Narek presented Armenian culture to the audience

Starting with the colors of courage (red), peace (blue), and creativity (orange) on the national flag, Narek offered a vivid overview of Armenian history and culture. He introduced iconic landmarks such as Mount Ararat and the national symbol of pomegranate, which represents fertility and wisdom. Narek further enriched the talk by sharing details about the world-renowned Ararat brandy, the intricate art of Armenian carpets, and the uniqueness of the Armenian alphabet.

To make the session more entertaining and interactive, Narek designed a small quiz. Participants were invited to guess the meanings of Armenian words from four options, sparking lively participation and enthusiastic responses.

Narek donated a copy of 100 Mysteries of Armenia: Pocket Encyclopedia, Photo Album, Travel Guide to DKU Library as part of the “Books from Home” project. This contribution provides a valuable resource for anyone interested in exploring Armenian culture, marking a perfect end to an afternoon dedicated to global understanding and cultural exchange.
