Language as a Portal to New Worlds

April 25, 2025

In the sprightly bloom of April, we extend our heartiest invitation for you to step into a cultural and scholarly fiesta — the Chinese Course Poster Exhibition hosted by the DKU Language and Culture Center. The exhibition, held in the DKU Library lobby through May 5th, showcases 25 hand-designed posters by international students enrolled in various levels of Chinese language courses.

The posters are filled with creativity and ingenuity, with students interpreting Chinese culture in their own ways. From film art to contemporary literary critique, and from Chinese debate to the culture of Chinese cuisine, their works offer us an insightful view of China through the eyes of foreign students.

This poster exhibition showcases posters in two types: Chinese and English.

Chinese Posters festure student works from CHIN 231 (Second-Year Chinese for Heritage Learners), CHIN 301-302 (Third-Year Chinese), CHIN 401-402 (Fourth-Year Chinese), and CHIN 410 (Public Speaking in Chinese). These posters demonstrate advanced Chinese writing proficiency through film review excerpts, book critiques, research reports, creative writing pieces, and literary analyses, reflecting the academic rigor of our upper-level Chinese curriculum.

English Posters highlight advanced-level Chinese courses, including CHIN 406 (Chinese Debate), CHIN 409 (Chinese Book Club), CHIN 410 (Public Speaking in Chinese), CHIN 412 (Independent Research), CHIN 414 (Reading Chinese Love Stories), CHIN 415 (Forbidden Love in Chinese Film), CHIN 417 (Li Yu and Chinese Pop Culture), and CHIN 420 (Translating Literary Kunqu). These courses showcase the depth and richness of topics available in advanced Chinese studies.

We look forward to your presence, to appreciate these creative and thoughtful works together. As illustrated by the theme of this Chinese course poster exhibition, we hope that students can make friends, cross cultural boundaries, broaden their horizons, and experience the diverse world during their language studies. Whether you have already embarked on your journey of learning Chinese or not, you are welcome to come here to experience the charm of language and the fusion of cultures. Let’s build a bridge together through language to connect Chinese and foreign cultures, and embrace a more open and inclusive future.

We anticipate meeting you at the exhibition!
