Free Institutional Access to CnOpenData

Duke Kunshan University (DKU) Library is pleased to announce complimentary institutional access to CnOpenData, an open source repository featuring China-centric datasets across a wide variety of topics such as economics, law, transportation, healthcare, and humanities. Currently, DKU students, faculty, and staff have access to 74 datasets, including 52 trial datasets and open datasets, such as global land cover data, China’s provincial and provincial-level budget deviation data, and stolen (lost) cultural relics data.

When accessing CnOpenData, please make sure you are on the DKU campus network, as a DKU campus IP address is required to sign in. If you are not physically on DKU campus, please make sure your device is connected to DKU VPN before accessing.

  1. Connect to the DKU campus network and make sure your Duke VPN is off.
  2. Go to the CnOpenData sign-in page and toggle the window to “注册 (Sign up)” to create your account.
    • A DKU email address is not required to register.
  1. Enter all the requested details on the sign-up form.
  1. After verifying your registration, login via CnOpenData sign-in page. Then, go to “个人中心 (Individual Center)”.
  1. Click “去认证 (Proceed to verification)”.
  1. Complete the form and click “提交 (Submit)”.
    • A screenshot or photo of your DKU ID card is required to complete the form.
  1. It may take up to 24 hours to verify your submission. Once your verification is approved, you will receive a confirmation email, and you can then start accessing CnOpenData.

CnOpenData is a comprehensive data platform offering datasets across diverse topics, including economics, finance, law, geography, media, and health. It hosts over 500 specialized databases, ranging from global patent citations and Chinese business registration records to recruitment advertisements, court judgments, tax surveys, and social media data. The platform also features a Chinese Social Science Research Database with more than ten themed modules and 140+ datasets.
