October 19, 2026

On October 8, 2026, the Swedish Academy announced that Canadian poet, essayist, translator, and classical scholar Anne Carson had been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, recognizing her bold and inventive writing and her imaginative engagement with the classical tradition. To celebrate this literary achievement, Duke Kunshan University Library invites readers to discover Carson’s remarkable body of work through electronic books, journal articles, and a selection of print titles identified for acquisition.

01 | Meet Anne Carson

Anne Carson (born in Toronto, Canada, in 1950) is a poet, essayist, translator, and classical scholar whose writing challenges the boundaries between poetry, prose, drama, and visual art. Deeply influenced by ancient Greek literature, she brings classical myths, forgotten voices, and philosophical questions into conversation with contemporary experiences of love, loss, desire, and memory. Her works are distinguished by their experimental forms, unexpected connections, and distinctive blend of scholarly insight and literary imagination. From the verse novel Autobiography of Red to the elegiac Nox and her translations of Greek tragedy, Carson continually reimagines what literature can be. Her writing invites readers to encounter the ancient world anew while reconsidering the possibilities of modern literary expression.
