The first workshop of the “Research Literacy Series” helps students acquire knowledge of the creation and organization of information and skills to search for appropriate information for academic research. Specifically, students will learn to recognize how information is created, organized, and stored; how to identify and describe an information need; how to develop a research question; how to select appropriate search tools such as library catalogs, databases, Google Scholar, and so forth; and how to choose different searching techniques such as keywords, subject headings, Boolean operators, truncation, and so on. Additionally, during the search, students will recognize that research is a trial-and-error process, and they will learn to modify their research questions during the whole search process to reach a manageable or workable topic finally.
