There is an old Chinese saying: “Read ten thousand books and travel ten thousand Li” (读万卷书,行万里路)1. Through books, you acquire knowledge and experiences of others; through travel, you engage directly with the world, enriching your personal experience and broadening your horizons. Why not do both, right here in our small world called DKU?
It has been five years, but “Reading the World” series is coming back! We will invite members of the DKU community from across the globe to share their favorite books, movies, etc., and talk about the intersection of culture, history, and artistic expression.
Our first comeback session will feature Narek Zalibekyan (UG ’29) from Armenia. Narek participated in DKU Library’s “Books From Home” project earlier this year and donated the book 100 Mysteries of Armenia that showcases the greatest natural, architectural, historical, and religious monuments in Armenia. Join us to know what makes the book unique about Armenian heritage!
Know more about other books in the “Books From Home” collection.
Also in this session, Narek will share the things he loves about Armenia: traditional food, festivals and rituals, popular games including chess, a national passion that brings out a team recognized as the “best team of the century” by the International Chess Federation.
Take a break from your mid-terms, join us for a casual and welcoming sharing of the secret that makes Armenian culture unforgettable, and ask Narek anything you want to know about Armenia. Light refreshments will be provided!
