The first workshop helps you acquire knowledge and skills to search for appropriate information for academic research. Specifically, you will learn to recognize how information is created, organized, and stored; how to identify and describe an information need; how to develop a research question; how to select appropriate search tools such as library catalogs, databases, Google Scholar, and so forth; and how to choose different searching techniques such as keywords, subject headings, Boolean operators, truncation, and more. Throughout the search, you will recognize that research is a trial-and-error and exploration activity, and they will learn to modify their research questions during the whole search process to finally reach a manageable and focused topic.

This workshop will also integrate AI tools into the literature search process. You will receive guidance on using AI to brainstorm and discover new research areas, organize and refine research ideas, critically apply AI generated responses, and so forth.

This interactive workshop will include hands-on practice with searching techniques. Please bring your laptop with you when you attend this workshop.
